Using the Intermittent Fasting Feature
Do I need to hit my calorie target while using intermittent fasting?
Yes. Intermittent fasting is one way to eat a reduced calorie intake, but it’s not advised to try and use it as a method to significantly under-eat. You should still be aiming to hit your calorie allowance on average across the day/week to ensure you’re fuelling your body adequately and safely.
Can I use intermittent fasting with other nutrient goals in the app?
If you choose to follow the ‘time-restricted’ eating approach, you can follow this alongside a specific nutrient goal such as Higher Protein. The intermittent fasting setting simply works by helping you stick to set fasting and eating windows. Whereas the nutrient goals are there to help you follow set nutrient targets, such as aiming for more protein or less fat.
Can I choose any length of fast I want?
You’re able to set a fasting duration between 12-20 hours. We recommend aiming for between 12-16 hours, especially if you are new to intermittent fasting. However, there is the option to set longer fasting windows up to 20 hours should you wish to do so, though we do not recommend doing these more extreme fasting durations on a regular basis.
Why can't I choose to fast for longer than 20 hours?
We currently don’t support the approach of regularly fasting for more than 20 hours per day. Fasting for more than 20 hours can be hard to adhere to and may increase the risk of nutrient deficiencies or eating too little over time.
Why am I not allowed to select the fasting feature?
Intermittent fasting is not recommended for everyone, so you will be prevented from choosing this option if certain contraindications apply to you. Settings within your account which will prevent use include:
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women
- Individuals with a history of disordered eating
- Individuals with a BMI below 18.5
Can I start and end a fast at any time?
Yes. While you can preselect your fasting start and end time, you are able to override this and start and end a fast at any time. Simply tap on the ‘Start fasting’ button in your diary to begin, or the ‘End fast’ button to stop.
Can I save, delete and edit fasts?
Yes, all your fasts will be logged and stored in your ‘Fasting History’. Here you can edit and delete fasts as required.
